- The latest LP on Dominick Fernow's label will land at the end of June.
Dominick Fernow's Hospital Productions will release an album from Nine Inch Nails' Alessandro Cortini.
The record is called Sonno and, in keeping with Hospital's ethos, it's very much a DIY affair. Cortini composed the LP in hotel rooms, putting sounds from a Roland MC 202 through a delay pedal. "I liked to walk around the room with a handheld recorder to hear where the sequence would sound better, turn on faucets, open doors or windows to see how the ambient sounds would interact with the MC 202/delay/speaker sound," he says. "It was very relaxing and liberating to make music this way."
Cortini is best known as part of Nine Inch Nails, though last year he put out two solo LPs for Important Records, Forse 1 and Forse 2. Though Sonno was made with a 202, his usual instrument of choice is the Buchla Music Easel, the obscure 1970s synth designed by Donald Buchla. (And embraced by other synth auteurs like Morton Subotnick and Charles Cohen.) Sonno will see release on digital, CD and double-vinyl formats.
