The Avalanches will release the Wildflower LP on July 8th.
Beats 1 DJ Zane Lowe hinted at the news on his radio show yesterday, saying, "Coming up at some point in the next 12 hours, new music will emerge and you will hear the first new interview with Tony [Di Blasi] and Robbie [Chater], AKA the Avalanches." In that interview, the duo revealed they have a new full-length called Wildflower on the way. They also streamed a track called "Frankie Sinatra" featuring Danny Brown and MF Doom.
This development comes on the heels of a mysterious trailer and hotline number signaling the much-loved group's emergence from a long period of inactivity. Until now, the sample-heavy band hasn't released any new music since its landmark 2000 LP, Since I Left You. The band offered the following explanation via a note posted to their Instagram:Sorry we kept you waiting... What kept us going was a belief in the day-to-day experience of music as a life force—as life energy. How music can change the tone of your day... What a beautiful thing that sound waves can be. It's magic.
