- The Yoruba Records owner will release his fifth studio album via Defected next year.
Osunlade's fifth full-length is set to hit the shops in February.
The American ex-pat has been residing in Greece for the last few years, using the serene atmosphere of the island of Santorini to focus on his production work. When RA's Todd Burns spoke to Osunlade back in October, the producer revealed that he'd been busy working on two distinctly different albums; the first being another of his house full-lengths, and the second "a soul, acoustic thing called Rebirth." The latter will be released first, and sees the producer again hooking up with Defected after they signed his last album to their freshly acquired Strictly Rhythm label.
"Before I started doing house music, I only did the type of music that's coming out on this album. This is a personal thing," he told RA in October, before adding that Rebirth is "probably the most vulnerable, the closest to my heart that I've been creatively." The record sees him flirt with his jazz, soul and world music influences, with much of the lyrical content being based around his own experiences and relationships. Full of lush instrumentation, most of the music on the album was played alone by Osunlade, with the rest being contributed by his nine-piece Italian band. Those wanting to experience the record in a live setting should keep an eye out for dates, as the producer plans to take the whole band out on the road for shows during 2010.
