The London DJ's first slot at the club is on October 8th.
Phonox has announced little-known London DJ HAAi as its new Saturday night resident.
The South London nightclub turned one this past weekend. While its Friday nights centre on high-profile headliners, Saturdays are all about the club's resident DJ. The last resident, Jasper James, joined Phonox when it opened, and now he'll hand over to HAAi, who's been a resident at Dalston's Ridley Road Market Bar for the past two years. HAAi's first slot at the Brixton club is on Saturday, October 8th.
HAAi, real name Teneil Throssell, began her career collecting Turkish and African records, and came up on the Phonox team's radar after playing a couple of warm-up sets at the club. "HAAi warmed up at Phonox on two consecutive weeks, and both times different promotions managers texted me along the lines of, 'Oh my god who is this DJ, she is amazing,'" says head booker Andy Peyton. "That's when we took notice and started paying regular visits to Ridley Road to check her out." Her first gig as resident is on Saturday, October 8th.
Phonox has also announced a raft of names for its Friday parties, many of whom are booked for seven-hour sets. Highlights include Motor City Drum Ensemble this weekend and a back-to-back between Marcellus Pittman and Berghain resident nd_baumecker on October 7th. DJ Bone steps up the week after that, followed by Pender Street Steppers on October 28th and Patrick Russell, who will be making his UK debut alongside Jane Fitz, on November 4th. There are also three Sunday gigs in November, with Michael Mayer, Gilles Peterson and Matthew Herbert dropping by on the 6th, 13th and 20th respectively.
