  • Demdike Stare's DDS label is releasing Mica Levi's soundtrack for the 2016 anime short Delete Beach. It's the first time Levi, the UK composer and producer also known as Micachu, has scored an animated film. Directed by Turner Prize nominee Phil Collins, with animation headed up by longtime designer Marisuke Eguchi, the short depicts a futuristic society where carbon-based energy is outlawed, and tells the story of a schoolgirl who joins an anti-capitalist resistance group. The soundtrack, due out tomorrow and described in press notes as "impendingly tense [and] viscerally affective," will come on limited double 10-inch vinyl—in a gatefold sleeve that also features a 12-page booklet of cells from the film—and on digital formats. Levi has previously earned praise with the music she's composed for the films Under The Skin and Jackie—her score for that 2016 biopic of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was nominated for an Academy Award. Listen to one of the Delete Beach interludes.
