Opposition from local residents has forced the Melbourne promoter to pull the plug on the September event.
Animals Dancing have announced their first festival, Bears Gone Bush, will no longer be going ahead this year.
Less than two months out from the September 28th kick-off date, the Melbourne promoter has spread the news via Facebook that they have been forced to cancel the three-day camping event due to "extreme opposition from an unprecedented number of local residents." This is despite the fact that the site at Tallarook, just over an hour north of Melbourne, has been used as a licensed venue for music festivals for at least eight years. They explain that they "had absolutely no reason to doubt the feasibility of our site until an 11th hour petition was launched late last week" and "after lengthy mediation and talks between ourselves, the site owners and those voicing concerns, an amicable resolution was still not able to be reached."
A portion of the artists announced for the festival will play one of three replacement shows held at different clubs around Melbourne as part of Bears Gone Bush Week. Elena Colombi will headline a night at The Gasometer Hotel on September 21st with support from Millú and Pjenné, while Interstellar Funk, Powder, Tolouse Low Trax, Alienata and Nosedrip play at XE54 on the 28th. Pender Street Steppers and Hashman Deejay will be joined by Tornado Wallace at Francis 28 on September 29th with another guest to be announced.
