- The LP—the first under his given name—was inspired by the tumultuous birth of his first child.
The Bug is releasing an album under his real name for the first time in June.
Sirens "documents the intensities surrounding the delivery and early days of [Martin]'s first child," says the press release, which explains that Martin's wife had to undergo emergency procedures during childbirth, followed by "life-threatening operations" endured by his son in the first days of his life.
The piece was debuted as a live performance in 2015 at Berghain for CTM Festival, which an RA review described as "45 minutes of sirens, fog horns and pure bass frequencies." Australian sound artist Lawrence English, who has long been a fan of Martin's, saw the performance and asked to release on his label Room40. The label goes on to say that, "The album, unlike the live work, traces out a dynamic sound world that is both tender and caustic."
In addition to The Bug, Martin is known for a wide variety of projects, including King Midas Sound, his group with Roger Robinson that released the RA Recommended album Solitude earlier this year.
