- Laughing Ears and Temple Rat are among the contributors.
Scandal, a two year-old party series based in Shanghai, has started its own record label.
Its debut release, Alexithymia 述情障碍, is a club compilation featuring eight women producers from around China. They include Laughing Ears, Gouachi Temple Rat and Scandal cofounder Everlast Phantom, AKA Eloise Fan.
Touching on techno, acid and jungle, the LP arrives on January 10th. A launch party is set for Friday, January 7th, at Shanghai club All and includes a production workshop and a group discussion.
As a party and label, Scandal aims to increase female participation in underground music, Fan told Resident Advisor. Analysing 200 non-commercial club events in Shanghai with four or more artists over the past two years, Fan found that only 34.5 percent of lineups included two or more females, while 30 percent didn't feature any. That's less than pre-pandemic levels, she noted. Through education-oriented events and all-women lineups, Scandal hopes to bridge the gender gap.
