  • Nia Archives won the first-ever award for Best Electronic/Dance Act at last night's MOBOs in London. The Bradford-born junglist—who called out the MOBOs earlier this year for its "lack of support" of electronic music—beat FKA twigs, SHERELLE, Jax Jones, Eliza Rose and Anz to the gong. "Oh my days, wow," she said in her acceptance speech. "I wasn't expecting that, I can't lie. I wanna say a massive big ups to the MOBOs for bringing this category back. I make jungle music, I'm a junglist, big up all the junglist massive. Jungle is music of Black origin and I'm proud to be flying the flag for my community and my scene." Alongside Nia Archives, Goldie and new collective Black Electronic Music Association (BEMA) were instrumental in introducing the award category. Electronic music was part of the MOBOs when it launched in the mid-'90s, only to be phased out in subsequent years. Other notable winners this year include RA film subject PinkPantheress (Best Female), Central Cee (Best Male, Best Video), D Double E (Best Grime Act) and grime-punk duo Bob Vylan (Best Alternative Music Act). Here's the full list of winners via the BBC. Watch Nia Archives' acceptance speech.
