Guillaume Coutu Dumont dishes up ten tracks of Montreal-style funk on his debut longplayer ‘Face A L’Est’.
Guillaume’s debut album arrives on local label Musique Risqué, the collective effort of Vincent Lemieux, Akufen, Deadbeat and Stephen Beaupré, who claim to hail Guillaume as a Svengali-like figure.
The record promises to be an odd beast: trained as a percussionist, Guillaume claims influence from months spent wandering in Senegal in West Africa as well as time spent in academia studying classical percussion. More disco-fried than his contemporaries, Face A L’Est is turning heads not only because it’s front and centre of the record racks this month, but because Guillame’s also got a live thing happening – check RA events for dates in Berlin, Valencia, Barcelona and Frankfurt this month.
