Jump 'Chico' Slamm - Galactic Alignment

  • One of their latest reclamation projects from Rush Hour is Jump "Chico" Slamm, a Chicago producer who, in spite of an extensive Discogs biography and a couple of aliases, has relatively few releases. Those few, however, are nothing short of seminal: he's the man behind the international smash "Fuk Dat," and Slamm Project, one of Cajual's defining releases. The two versions of "Galactic Alignment," discovered in the producer's archives, are probably too tracky to revive those past glories. But they have all the tightly locked funkiness you'd expect from a Cajual affiliate, and their pared-down, slightly ominous grooves easily fit the current club landscape. That darkness is especially highlighted in the "Slammapella" mix, where flexing stabs and gliding synthetic vocal clips equal a tense sense of purpose, while the "Sound Signal Mix" focuses more on the interplay between the stabs. Both are subtle variations on a strikingly fresh—especially considering its age—motif.
