- While his DJ sets show a more expansive approach, lush techno and jacking old-school jams have characterized Sam Geiser's production work. Listen back to Music Over Matter, his Deetron album from late 2013, and you might be left wondering why it slipped under the radar. Joined by a stellar cast that includes Seth Troxler, Cooly G, Ben Westbeech, Hercules & Love Affair, it's a sparkling, expansive dance record with a pop sheen. Perhaps it needed a showstopper like "Photon" to hook people in?
Following Character's double-sided release from Deetron and Ripperton in September, Geiser returns on his own this time with some unabashed, peak-time ordnance. The A-side kicks off with acid-tinged retro keys and drum rolls, but what lifts it onto a higher plane is an addictive Italo piano refrain. A standout of Huxley's recent Essential Mix, like all the best ideas, it's devastatingly simple. Despite losing those pianos, the dub version is still an effective weapon, helped in part by its crowd-pleasing breakdowns. This is the sound of Geiser going for jugular, and he does so with surgical precision.
