- Brooklyn producer Jeremy Krinsley has worked in various musical capacities for years now, as half of Negative Supply and as a studio keyboard player for Shamir. The intriguing five tracks of house and techno on Intl Shipping, the first solo record Krinsley has made as Hand Of God, were produced using two MPCs, Logic and samples from records found at a thrift store in Greenpoint. According to his bio, however, Krinsley is "already moving past" the "sample stuttering and pitch modulation" of the EP, so it all sounds a little dashed-off, and by extension, endearingly unserious. The tracks are loosely experimental in that way, albeit the experiments of someone with plenty of studio experience and skill to call on.
Krinsley's use of echoing, layered vocals sometimes recalls Hive Mind-era Ital. On "Sunshine Bothwinner LLC," he surrounds his background whispers with a funky, bumping bass croak and teetering keys, while "Jeremy's Playhouse" does similar things in a markedly more trippy way. "Hand Of God," the EP's most varied track, touches on chirruping techno, ghetto-funk and clattering drum tracks. Two heavier bass workouts complete the package: "UK Gas" feels submerged and subtly frantic at 132 BPM, while "Tina T.T.T.T." is more brittle and distorted. Intl Shipping offers no clues as to where Krinsley will alight next, but finding out should be interesting.
