- Binh's latest 12-inch follows two double EPs, but it comes packed with enough tonnage to nearly outweigh them. That's mostly thanks to "Chalzedon," a track that finds the Berlin producer's golden ratio. There are cloudy synths lurking in the background, skippy drums locked in a free-flowing pattern and the occasional high-pitched bleep. And then there's the bassline, one of those magical melodies that keeps you glued to a minimal track. It's Binh's most masterful yet, wiggling up and down in a way that's bound to elicit freaky moves on a dance floor. From the funky snare to the rattling hi-hats, everything slots into place among its zigs and zags.
"Ramen" shrinks slightly in "Chalzedon"'s shadow, though its slinky drums are nearly as addictive, especially when they're padded by deep rumbles of sub-bass. That leaves the 11-minute "ThisThat," which taps into the deep hypnosis of Binh's first 12-inch for Perlon but with a perkier disposition and a ruder bassline. Both of these subtle and snappy tracks do what Binh does best, but "Chalzedon" takes it to another level.
