- Some of my favourite techno is about texture more than anything else. The lead cut off Tom VR's new EP for InterGraded is a case in point: the kick drum is almost an afterthought. Instead, the bass reverberates like a plucked cello string, and the pinging synth notes that make up the melody are swimming in delay. They quiver and shake alongside the vocal sample, which sounds like it's coming from behind a cheesecloth, touches which make every new sound feel curious and alive. It all adds up to a graceful style of techno—even when the kick drum doubles up towards the end—that, despite its title, takes a slow, steady approach to pleasure and invites you to luxuriate in it.
