  • Peyote Dream's "State Of Mind" originally came out in 1993 and was remixed the next year by Slack—the duo of Quinn Whalley, later of Paranoid London, and Peace Division's Justin Drake—when it immediately became a classic. This reissue from Love On The Rocks showcases how eerily contemporary the original sounds, with its rubbery, surging bass and irresistible tabla groove, something of a blueprint for today's modern trance explorers. But the remixes of the remix are nothing to sneeze at, particularly Roza Terenzi's "Slow Buck," where it sounds like she trapped "State Of Mind" in quicksand. Hypnotic and chuggy, it reimagines the original as a late '90s prog house anthem, all glimmering surfaces and hefty drums, like something from the Wipeout games.
