After the brilliant night before hand at the
Renaissance Summer Ball, I turned up to
The Garden
feeling a little bit rough. But any prospects of having a quiet day was soon thrown at the window at the prospect of hearing
Nic Fanciulli
and
Desyn Masiello
under the warm Sydney sun. I turned up to the sounds of
Robbie Lowe
as he again showed why he is one of Sydney’s best. He played some nice laid back house, with Phonique’s ‘For the Time Being’ one of the highlights of a smooth and laid back set by Robbie ‘Lowe Down’ Lowe.
Nic Fanciulli
soon followed and he played a superb 2 hour set comprising of many of the tunes that made up his tasty ‘Renaissance’ album, such as ‘Makes Me Feel’ by Anil Chawla and Dale Anderson, ‘Faith’ by G-Club and ‘Changes’ by Sandy Rivera. It was a perfect set for the conditions with the sun setting as Nic started to turn the heat up with some chunkier and more deadly basslines. It was a smoother set compared to the previous night but it was just as impressive by a DJ who clearly has made his mark in 2005. After his impressive showing the week before at Sweetchilli, it was
Desyn Masiello’s
turn to impress. I was really looking forward to hearing him again and he started like he left off the week before by playing some really chunky stuff as the light diminished such as the very tasty ‘What You Need’ by DJ Sender, Upfade's Shake & Bake Mix of Dan Sampson’s ‘Summer Keys’ as well as a superb mix of Planet Funk’s ‘Chase the Sun’, the same mix that turned heads the week before at his Sweetchilli gig. It was another quality set from a man who is consistently delivering the goods. It was actually a quality afternoon. It was my first time I have been to the Sounds crew new Sunday venue at the Slip Inn and to be honest I already think I prefer it to the Greenwood. There is a bit more of an intimate feel thanks to more seating areas around the place and the tight nature of the Garden made it feel a little friendlier. Plus the fact there wasn’t a cloud in the sky really helped. Sun, beers and quality house music – you can’t ask for much more really
