- Based in Washington DC, Jackson Ryland is one of many American DJs and producers who balances techno and drum & bass in a way that feels natural. (He's also a member of the high-octane techno duo Rush Plus.) On his new self-released album, Downtown After Dark, he takes this sound across tempos and moods, traversing both dance floor gear and music better suited for late-night walks down empty city streets. Highlight "Seaform Simulator" is smack dab in the middle. The light, almost jangly drum programming is irresistible and propulsive, but the pads—wonderfully analogue in their grit and decay—add a softer, almost mournful mood.
