- Parisian producer Idris Bena makes vintage house that sometimes sounds like he's trying to cram a hundred ideas into one song. In a single track, there might be four or five melodies, a handful of vocals and enough drums to fill a full sample pack. His latest LP, Passagem, a collaboration with vocalist Lourene, slows things down in more ways than one. Take highlight "Breathe." Lourene's vocals guide us through a breathing exercise while humid synths and a lazy break move with a Sunday morning wake-and-bake torpor. Towards the end, he throws in some guitar and tropical synths, but "Breathe" is top shelf downtempo that shows us what Bena can do with just a little less.
